Imagine if you have to work with firmware an usually have to change flash chip of your router
you have to de-solder write the chip then soder it to board again, this process takes time
Some time your use over heat and kill your chip or router board.
I mod my TP-LINK TL-WR841N V11 with SOP8 clip so I can change flash chip in seconds
Ugrading wifi router from 4M to 8MB or 16MB flash is no more tough process.
Now I can clip flash chip and my router will run with new chip out side as normal
You also need to debug or debrick your router sometime so you need to connect its serial console interface

Now is how I did my mod
I have SOP8 chip clip connecting to adapter then to jumper cables
Now I will solder those jumper to router board
Especially under the router
And try if everything is OK
Plug the power adapter and turn WiFi router on
LED pattern shows that the router is up and running with external flash chip
I will fix those cable with some hot glue

SOP8 flash chip clip is done, now I will continue with serial console interface
I have got USB - TTL module which I will connect to the router using some jumper cables
I have to cut the cables and put it inside the router so I can leave my USB module outside
With a VOM multimeter, I found out that RX pin is not connected
So I use my Jeweler Loupe Magnifier with LED Light and see that TP-LINK cut off one resistor of this TL-WR841N V11 serial interface
In order to make my router's serial interface to work I have to connect the missing R23 resistor
I will measure voltage to identify the console PINs: 0V - GND, 3.3V - VCC (we are not connecting) about 3V - TX and RX as we found
Solder those jumper cable to the board
Fix serial interface cables with hot glue
Now I can connect to my USB-TTL module
Tx-Rx, Rx-Tx and GND-GND
I have my testing TL-WR841N V11 router with both flash chip and serial interface out of the box
