Mussorgsky's famous piano work 'Pictures at an Exhibition' needs no introduction from me. However, I thought it would be interesting to attempt the 'Tuileries' movement (a depiction of children with their governesses playing in the Tuileries Gardens in Paris) on melodica. To do this I used a simplified piano version from 1938 by Hans-Günter Heumann, to which I made very slight changes on held chords. My thumbnail shows a drawing of children playing in the Tuileries by the American artist Maurice Prendergast (1858-1924).
