.Llyn Teifi is the largest of a group of six pools and reservoirs which lie at about 1,500 ft (455 meters) above sea level on the western edge of the Cambrian Mountains. The nearest village is Pontrhydfendigaid which is close to ruins of the Cistercian abbey of Strata Florida. There is a narrow single track road near the village which leads to the Teifi Pools which are deep enough to be believed to be unfathomable and were famous even in medieval times for the quality of their eel and trout fishing.
The largest of the Teifi Pools is Llyn Teifi which is the source of the River Teifi which meanders south through the Teifi Valley to reach the coast at Cardigan. The scenery in this remote location is mostly upland moorland as far as the eye can see.
The lakes are well-known locally for fishing and Llyn Teifi is one of the few lakes that permits fly fishing, spinning and bait fishing. The lake is well know for it's for native brown trout.
TEIFI POOLS WALK
A footpath starts from the car park at the Strata Florida Abbey a former Cistercian abbey was originally founded in 1164. The Teifi Pools walk is a six mile loop that can be started either in the north along the narrow road that passes closest to the pools, or from the south, at the end of another road, from Strata Florida Abbey. Approximately a third of the loop is near the lakes with the walking route following valleys and crossing hills. It's a challenging route but you are rewarded with views over the Cambrian Mountains and the countryside of the River Teifi Valley.
An alternative route from the northern road around all of the Teifi Pools is approximately 2.5 miles some of which is on tracks or paths however most is cross-country.
