The Kambui Hills Forest Reserve is close to Kenema in the south-east of Sierra Leone. Even though it is a protected area the deforestation and exploitation of the forest is going on immensely. The biggest threats are constructions, logging, stone mining and upland farming. Through the engagement of communities, local authorities and government bodies, the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone (CSSL) is trying to save what is left to be saved.
The corridor between the Southern and the Northern part is already gone. The movement of animals is highly in danger. Through demarcation of the buffer zone, environmental education, forest guards and advocacy work, CSSL tries to stop this development and to bring the forest back.
