RECIPE SOURCE: There's a number of stories about this one, but I'm going to go with Liquor.com's assessment that it first appeared in print in Harry Johnson's 1882 book, "New and Improved Bartender's Manual: Or How to Mix Drinks of the Present Style."
INGREDIENTS USED (IN ORDER SHOWN):
1 oz (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz (15 ml) simple syrup
2 oz (60 ml) Old Tom gin (London Dry is ok too, but the Old Tom really works better here if you have it)
Fill the rest of the glass with club soda
Garnish with a lemon wheel
*Some folks also like a maraschino cherry on this...I do not.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Highball glass
Bar spoon
INSTRUCTIONS:
Fill your highball glass with ice and pour in the ingredients as listed above. Stir for roughly five seconds and garnish with a lemon wheel. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Cheers!
