Geoecologist Christin Müller works on hydrological extremes such as droughts and floods. To study these more closely, monitoring with high spatial and temporal resolution is necessary. This information, in turn, is necessary to further develop models and improve forecasts. Her research focuses in particular on nitrate dynamics. How is nitrate mobilised or retained during extreme events, how is it degraded, how and where is it accumulated? With her work, Christin Müller wants to contribute to the development of measures to reduce nitrate concentrations in water and groundwater. In her free time, Christin Müller is a diver and diving teacher. What she studies at the UFZ she can also observe underwater - and thus develop a completely different understanding of processes.
