The Embu Government has kicked off issuance of over 7,000 title deeds for the contested Mwea settlement scheme after reaching an out of court resolution with their Kirinyaga counterparts.
Embu Lands CEC Josphat Kithumbu said the case in which Kirinyaga government had claimed a stake in the land was referred to the inter government agency which mediated the matter.
The title deeds are among the more than 20,000 documents that the Embu government is issuing at the Mbeere Lands registry in Siakago.
Of these, 7,232 are for the Mwea settlement scheme while the rest will be distributed to residents of Riacina, Kamarandi and Gichiche adjudication areas.
However, the move caused uproar with Mbeere South MP Mutava Musyimi and Makima MCA Peninah Mutua in whose area the controversial Mwea settlement lies, condemning it.
