Stellantis, the automotive giant behind brands like Fiat, Dodge, Jeep, and Opel, has partnered with Ample, a California-based startup, to introduce a fleet of electric vehicles capable of swapping their high-voltage batteries in just five minutes. This innovative approach aims to revolutionize electric mobility and address concerns related to EV adoption. While Nio has already been utilizing battery swaps in its EVs, Ample's battery swap stations offer a quick and efficient solution to range anxiety. These stations can replace a depleted battery pack in no time, making EV ownership more convenient and accessible. The collaboration will begin in Madrid, Spain, in 2024, with the retrofitting of 100 Fiat 500e EVs from Stellantis' Free2move car-sharing service. These vehicles will be equipped with Ample's modular batteries, which can be swapped module-by-module at dedicated swap stations.
