Chobe River, Botswana.
A herd of Cape buffalo were crossing between two islands.
I could see a young one was struggling (not in the video)...it looked like he was maybe getting stuck in the mud under the water. 2 adult buffalo went in towards the baby and quickly turned around to go back to shore. The baby made progress towards the shore and I thought everything was ok.
Then the guide said that a crocodile had the baby. We got closer and I started to film.
We could see the crocodile had the baby by a front leg. The baby fought so hard for over 14 minutes.
He would get close to shore and we thought we was free and then the croc would swim him out more into the river. It was a difficult 14 minutes watching the baby fighting with all its might to survive.
A second crocodile came from behind us and that was the end for the baby Cape buffalo.
2 buffalo - an adult and another young one stood watching from the shore line. I'm guessing the adult was the mama. It's always hard to watch animals struggling to survive. It is nature but it doesn't make it any easier to witness.
The Chobe River is a great location for wildlife interactions.
