Deborah Sellers
May 13, 2021
Zoom event, Cornell University
The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCI-S) is a trauma-informed program that provides school staff with safe, effective and trauma-sensitive skills to manage the emotional and behavioral challenges they encounter in their daily interactions with students. The National Institute of Justice provided funds to conduct a mixed methods waitlist group-randomized trial of TCI-S in 19 elementary and K-8 schools. The COVID-19 pandemic arrived during the second year of this three-year study. This talk will describe preliminary findings as well as the status of the trial given the pandemic.
Deborah Sellers is the director of research and evaluation for the Residential Child Care Project in the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research. She received her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and an M.S. in biostatistics from the Harvard School of Public Health. Her primary interests focus on the relationship between research and practice as well as helping both researchers and practitioners frame and answer questions that make a meaningful difference, particularly in the areas of child welfare, out-of-home care and education.
