June 2018, marked a turning point in Mridul's life. When she felt a lump in her left breast, she took immediate action. A mammogram revealed a mass, and a biopsy confirmed her fears. It was primary cancer of the breast, and the tumour was sizable. Classified as Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, known to be aggressive, Mridul's battle was intense.
Under the care of experts at Medanta’s Breast Services department, Mridul underwent neo-adjuvant chemotherapy as the first line of defence to shrink the tumour before surgery. “It paid off. They were able to remove the entire tumour from the breast and the lymph nodes, and preserve my breast as well; not a trace of it remained,” shares the now 65-year-old who also had to undergo radiation therapy subsequently.
Regular follow-ups showcase Mridul's remarkable progress, and her mental and physical well-being shines through.
Mridul’s case showcases that even aggressive breast cancers like hers can be treated successfully and that patients can regain health and live a full life.
