One person was injured in clashes today (Wednesday) during clashes between the Lebanese Army and demonstrators at the provincial capital of Sidon in south Lebanon.
The scuffles in Sidon erupted as the rest of the country was paralysed by a one day strike called by the Federation of Labour Trade Unions.
Lebanese troops guarded the streets of Sidon in South Lebanon while demonstrators gathered to protest soaring living costs in the country.
Policemen roughed-up protesters shouting anti-government slogans before a violent clash between both groups broke out.
Lebanese troops fired in the air to disperse stone-throwing protesters while pushing and beating demonstrators with their weapons.
The motorcade of a prominent Sidon politician- who was leading the crowd of about one thousand demonstrators- also came under fire, but neither him nor his companions were hurt.
One person was reported injured during the clashes.

The protests were sparked by an almost 38 per cent increase in gasoline prices decreed by Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's government last week.
