In this video I demonstrate why a P-trap is important and how to install one. It turns out, a P-trap on the condensate drain is important because it ensures no unfiltered air gets sucked up into the evaporator/ air handler unit. It also eliminates the bubbling sound you often hear when this happens.

This isn't your normal P-trap for condensate. The Rectorseal EZ Trap with Overflow Switch prevents water damage and floods by disabling the system when a clog in the drain occurs. It also includes a brush for cleaning out the condensate drain.
For this install, I set up the condensate drain to disable the condenser compressor, by wiring it in series with the 24V control wire (Y wire). I did instead of wiring it in series with the R wire (the power wire) so the thermostat stays on.
