1. F18’s compatible with Indian naval carrier fleet: Boeing.
Global defence equipment major Boeing has said that its F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft is compatible with India’s current naval carrier platforms and that they can be produced in the country under the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
Analytical and computer simulations have shown that the F/A-18 is compatible with the current carrier fleet of the Indian Navy.
Pratyush Kumar, President, Boeing India has said , The results of the test have been submitted in response to a global RFI issued by the Navy.
Presently, the Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers’ utilize “ski-jump ramps” for fighter aircraft to take-off.
Company executives told that the F/A-18 Super Hornet was designed for carrier operations and is the world’s pre-eminent carrier capable aircraft.
2. Indian Defence Employees Question procurement of Sub-Standard Korean K-9 Howitzers from Korea.
India’s Ministry of Defence entered into a Rs 4,366 crore contract in April 2017 with L&T for the supply of 100 K-9 Howitzers in collaboration with Hanwha Techwin, the South Korean technology partner of L&T.
The All India Defence Employees’ Federation has written to the Defence Minister requesting the government to review its decision to buy substandard South Korean howitzers instead of indigenously manufactured howitzers.
The Ministry of Defence had decided to order ‘K-9 Thunder’ Howitzers from South Korea through L&T.
The South Korean Army has decided to halt exercising with the K-9, pending an enquiry into the malfunctioning of the self-propelled howitzer.
3. Astra BVRAAM enters Small Scale Production Quietly.
Indian Air Force has cleared limited series production of ingeniously developed Astra BVRAAM.
The initial order is for 50 Units of Astra BVRAAM which will be equipped largely on India’s frontline Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft but it will slowly make it way into other aircrafts like LCA Tejas, Mirage-2000 and Mig-29 in near future which will see more Batch orders.
DRDO has also briefed about the Indigenous system to the Indian Navy and if cleared by Indian Navy will also make it is way into Carrier Borne Mig-29K aircraft in near future.
