Always going against the mainstream grain, Chris Zaldain loves fishing topwater baits (especially walking varieties) in the wind. Not surprisingly, there are vast design and performance variations within the walking bait category. Zaldain selects walking baits that sit high on the surface (more buoyant). These high-riding varieties cut quickly from side to side and throw more water than lower-riding, neutrally buoyant versions. As is often the case, the right rod and line setup have a significant impact on performance. Zaldain shares his rod and line preferences for getting the most action out of the bait while making fast and accurate casts.
