Way back in August 2018, we discovered that we were pregnant. It was an unbelievable moment when the OB disclosed to us that we were having twins. From then on, it was us trying to settle in to the fact that we were going to have twins and that we were going to be the parents of three kids.
The OB also explained to us what Mo-Di or Monochorionic Diamniotic twins meant. From the second trimester, we were asked to visit an MFM. A Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist is a doctor who helps take care of women having complicated or high-risk pregnancies. Being pregnant with twins is considered a high-risk pregnancy.
It is also important to contact the insurance and inform them of the pregnancy and gather all the knowledge on the coverage and the benefits. The insurance also would give a list of OBs within the network.
Towards the end of the second trimester we had to go to the emergency for Urinary Tract Infection.
Also during the pregnancy, mom was diagnosed with Gestational Thrombocytopenia. She was referred to a Hematologist for closely monitoring the platelet count.
It was a planned C-Section with less hassles. But post delivery, the uterus was not contracting and the bleeding was slightly above normal. The OB immediately administered Pitocin and brought it under control. Atony of the uterus, also called uterine atony, is a serious condition that can occur after childbirth. It occurs when the uterus fails to contract after the delivery of the baby, and it can lead to a potentially life-threatening condition known as postpartum hemorrhage.
After two days at the hospital, the mom and the boys were safe home.
Mom carried the babies in her tummy for 37 weeks and 2 days. They were of a normal single baby’s weight and had no NiCU time.
Aryan and Adharv are now 1 year and 4 months old now :)
