Corfu Easter celebrations begin on Sunday 01/04/2018. At 11:00 in the morning, the ceremony of St. Spyridon's Seventh Squad is carried out, a litany that dates back to 1630 in memory of the island's discharge from the deadly plague epidemic. This litany is the longest on the way and wanders along the imaginary line of the old Venetian walls of the city, with several stops for donations and appearances, bypassing, as before, the Jewish Quarter. It is the only one in which all the 18 Philharmonic Orchestras of the island participate, to honor the patron saint of Corfu. The custom is after the end of the procession, the Philharmonics parade from the central points of the historic center of the city, playing merry marching.
