"In addition to the fact that India has been seriously aggrieved, there were United States casualties as well, so we are also victims of these attacks. We think it is imperative that this incident be, these attacks be thoroughly investigated and we think it is also imperative that those responsible for perpetrating these attacks be brought to account. So, the effort at the moment is concentrated on investigating these incidents and these attacks and bringing those responsible to account. We are cooperating in this effort. Obviously, the government of India is in the lead with respect to this investigation but all of our diplomatic partners have a responsibility to contribute to this effort."

STORYLINE:
US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte said on Friday that it was the responsibility of all diplomatic partners of the United States to contribute in the effort to investigate the recent attacks in Mumbai.
Talking to reporters after meeting India's external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi, Negroponte said the United States was also a victim of the attacks and the perpetrators needed to be brought to book.
Negroponte also met Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon and National Security Adviser MK Narayanan during his day-long visit to India.
The US is pressing Pakistan and India to cooperate in the investigation and resume a painstaking peace process that has lowered tensions without resolving the core dispute over Kashmir.
Negroponte arrived in New Delhi from Islamabad - the second trip by a top-ranking American official in a week.
Also in New Delhi, German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), Schaeuble, who arrived in New Delhi to discuss cooperation with India in dealing with terrorism, said that Pakistan was being encouraged by the international community to cope with and fight terrorism as it is a threat to it too.
He also met Home Minister P Chidambaram and National Security Adviser M K Narayanan.
