Note that North Pier is only served in the Fleetwood direction by northbound trams with southbound services using Talbot Square or the southbound North Pier stop. The North Station extension begins at 40:30.
All Blackpool Tramway stops are served by request only, this means is no passengers press the stop button or are waiting on the tram stop the tram will not stop.
Since the new North Station tram extension opened in June 2024 there is now direct interchange between Blackpool Trams and National Rail services from Blackpool North station with Northern and Avanti West Coast train services. Previously a walk was required from North Pier to North Station or from Starr Gate to Squares Gate on the Blackpool South line.
At the time of filming this journey the Blackpool tram timetable was operating 3 separate half hourly services providing 4 trams per hour on each core section from Fleetwood to Pleasant Street, Talbot Square/North Pier to North Station and Tower to Starr Gate. This was filmed on a T3 service with T2 being North Station to Starr Gate and T1 being the original direct Fleetwood to Starr Gate route.
The core day timetable is now all trams running the whole length of the line in both directions via North Station reversing directions here. There is now only a limited direct service from Tower to Pleasant Street avoiding the North Station extension As Fleetwood Ferry has a single platform on a loop Trams do not reverse at the northern end of the route.
The Blackpool Tramway is the only original tramway left in the country, although it did undergo modernisation in the early 2010s with more modern Flexity 2 trams introduced. For many years it has been the only tramway with no direct interchange with the national rail network with the closest connections being from Starr Gate to Squires Gate, Burlington Road West to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and North Pier to Blackpool North, however this will soon change when the first extension to the network will open from North Pier to Blackpool North with a stop at Talbot Road, this will allow direct interchange to the tram network from the rest of the country.
During the summer heritage trams, including those which are double deck, operate along part of the route towards the Blackpool end. These services run alongside the regular passenger services but require additional tickets to be brought to travel on these special services.
