The Cell line returns, this time enhanced by the power of A.I. The X-Cell harkens back to the original with its blue and yellow color scheme, and must like that original feature the strong NUCLEUS core, this time with a lower RG. To go with the old core, Roto grip wrapped this one in a brand new cover, the extrax ultra solid which is a solid version of what was on attention star, finished to 2000 abralon out of the box.

For the layout, I went with a 5x5.5x3 2LS layout. This alignment is meant to help get the XCell the lane a little extra, be easy off the spot but also not too forward. The ultimate goal here was to balance the natural strength of the ball with the layout so it doesn't get weak downlane like big asyms do sometimes.

AND ON THE LANES… The XCell is a high risk, high reward type of option. Throwing this one, I didn't have much room for error and got caught in an over under reaction really fast. Don't get me wrong, The XCell was definitely playable in multiple parts of the lane but each required a different way of getting around the ball to get all 10 pins to go over.

But my favorite part about throwing the X-Cell was how good the good hits were. When it hits just right, it’s LOUD! Those no-doubter strikes from the X-Cell are incredibly satisfying, even though they might not come as frequently as you'd like.

Which brings me to my list of downsides. This thing is strong and its mean motion towards the pins mean I had to throw it really well to even have a chance and I'm not a great bowler so I missed a lot more than I struck. The cell line has been notorious for having so much power in nucleus core and with the A.I dropping the RG 2 entire points, it makes the move sharper, but even less forgiving.

If that's the kind of shape through the pins you're into though, I'd recommend pairing this one with a Summit Peak and an Optimum Idol. The Idol will be similar to the XCell's shape but a bit more even due to it being symmetrical. When those options are both cooked the Summit peak will spin up super fast, so if you can find where that right spot is downlane with the X-Cell, you should be able to use that same spot with the Summit peak and move further inside.

Jumping to our crossbrand comparisons, I first took a look at the Max Bias from Radical. and here I see a shape that is Basically the same as the XCell with more torque. You can see the core start up even sooner in the Max bias, which causes it to be a touch more even front to back, but if you matched up the surface grits and layouts of these two, the difference you would see is nominal.

Then we took a look at the Motiv Evoke and here the differences are subtle, but they're there. The evoke acts more like a strong symmetrical piece so it'll be more forgiving, but sacrifices authority on the good hits. If you have to ram through the 8-9 to get all 10 to go, the advantage goes to the XCell.

But with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is low rev players. If you're not putting a lot of hand in it, the XCell will work wonders for you. Its super strong, but balanced in core and cover strength so it won't push you out of your comfort zone and will smash strikes harder than you think you can.

The second recommendation is for low axis rotation bowlers. The cell core with a.i. is almost comically strong, but those with a low axis of rotation will appreciate how that core makes this piece stand up strong off the spot and get through the pins with authority.

The all new X-Cell from Roto Grip takes their hp4 line to a new level of performance, and in the right hands, could be what you need to excel on the lanes.
