StrongPoint Automation developed this highly flexible automated palletizing system to utilize FANUC robots and automation to palletize, stretch wrap and label a variety of different products, each with its own unique size, weight and pallet pattern. The system uses two FANUC M-410iC/185-kilogram payload palletizing robots for the process: To the right, one of the FANUC robots palletizes a single line at 30 cases per minute. To the left, a second FANUC robot palletizes 33 cases per minute across 3 lines. The system is handling RSC cases and JUG in box cases of up to 40 pounds. An upstream barcode scanner and conveyor system separate the cases to each of their palletizing lines, and cases are formed into rows on the StrongPoint infeed system. The FANUC robots use a dual servo grip end of arm tool with integrated FANUC servos to pick the products. The FANUC robots are able to rotate the boxes in order to place them with the label facing outward; This allows the labels to easily be read and stored in warehouse shelving. Additionally, the robot is able to pick two types of tier sheets, as this system uses automatic pallet magazines to deliver two styles of pallets to the correct line depending on the product selection. Once a pallet is complete, the system discharges the full pallets for stretch wrapping. Different wrap patterns are tied to the production information – This wrap pattern information is passed to the wrapping machine before it wraps each pallet based on the product it holds. Once a completed pallet is wrapped, a pallet labeler prints a label with the information that was given it for the pallet. It also relays this information to an ethernet-connected plant database system. Finally, this system is centrally located in the plant and easily accessible, needing only a single fork truck operator to retrieve the pallets. This robotic palletizing solution from StrongPoint Automation has provided great value to their customer, adding increased throughput, efficiency and flexibility to their palletizing processes versus palletizing these very heavy products by hand.
