God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

The serenity prayer is a staple in many twelve step programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous and gives those who listen to it a guide to focus and controlling the aspects of their lives that are within their control and important, and letting the others go.
