One of the most sublime voices ever heard on earth! One must wonder why this goddess is now only remembered for her pretty looks instead of her glorious voice. This recording of "Ernani, Involami!" certainly tops all others by light years. Although this opinion maybe controversial, but... you can make a pretty damn good argument that Anna singing Verdi tops every other soprano on so many different levels, and yes, even Maria Callas. Every note is clearly defined and perfected, and embedded into a seamless legato, with delicacy and fragility combined with immense drama and power. The phrasing is as natural as if she had learned to sing before she learned to talk, the decay of each note and the way she attacks them mixes so deliciously with the orchestra you often feel as if they were one body. But she doesn't let the orchestra take her over, rather, she ornaments over it, soaring her high notes above with just the right amount of sparkles.

Although Maria Callas is probably still the queen of Verdi, as her experience and work on the repertoire is gold, if Anna had worked more on the repertoire, she could have mastered it her own beautiful way.
