Back in 2016, Russian propagandists were ecstatic when Donald Trump became president of the United States. They were absolutely certain that he was going to be best friends with Vladimir Putin and ease up on the sanctions. Putin also didn’t shy away from paying compliments to the 45th president. Even though they were in fact quite cordial with each other, the sanctions not only weren’t lifted but became stricter.
