This video demonstrates the CO2 laser measurement probe reading the laser power of a sealed glass CO2 laser. At the beginning, the laser is powered off, then powered on for 15 seconds, then powered off. During the power on time, the meter can be seen increasing in the wattage output. Then, after power off, the probe continues to increase until the actual laser output power can be seen.
This video is one of three videos that show the same laser output power measurement. The three videos show three different Mahoney brand power probes--the 200, 100, and 500 watt probes. Note that the three power probes measure the same power level, demonstrating the accuracy of the probes.
The probes work for 1.064 microns and 10.6 micron wavelength lasers. In other words, not only the CO2 lasers operating at 10.6 or 9.3 microns, but measurement is possible with the YAG, Fiber, and Diode lasers.
The product has many uses, such as identifying whether a mirror is bad on a laser machine, by measuring before and after the optic and finding that the optic is abosrbing too much power. It can be used for warranty repairs by testing the laser output power and claiming warranty repair work if the laser power is below the wantranteed amount. It can also be sued to test laser beam alignment on a laser engraving machine by measureing the laser power at the four table corners. In addition, laser tubes degrade in power over time, so it is good to identify the opticaml laser power for a job and record it for future work.
