This video takes you through all the steps of planting a young Cara Cara navel orange tree in my backyard located in zone 9B, near Phoenix Arizona. While there are many choices for purchasing a fruit tree, rootstock matters for the life and health of the tree over the long haul. The plant in this video was purchased from Summerwinds Nursery and was grown on sour orange rootstock by Sunset Nursery (located in Yuma, Arizona). I explain the import of proper rootstock for our clay soil and also show you how I change out the soil media, amend the clay soil in the planting hole with sand and pumice for good drainage and aeration, stake the tree, wrap the trunk (to prevent sunburn) as well as cover irrigation and location.
