A quick review of the Princess Auto square wood stove manufactured by Red Mountain Valley.
*** New video online showing the re-painted stove in use winter Tipi camping with Winnerwell 3.5” stove pipe - [ Ссылка ]
The retail price for this stove varies between $80 and $200 depending on the season & any applicable special sales. The stove features 5 sections of 3.5” (technically 3.45”) chimney pipe and 4 small legs. The stove uses a variety of metric hex screw bolts to attach the door, legs, and chimney collar / flashing. The chimney flashing hast to be placed in the fire box because the holes in the stove top are not tapped and too large for the bolts.
The stove must be cured prior to use so that the paint can set / off gas. Unfortunately the paint is poor quality and bubbles, cracks or simply peels off after curing. I’ve since stripped the original paint with sandblasting / wire brushing and applied high quality high temperature paint. Paint with a high temperature endurance of 700C or greater is recommended.
If you intend to use the door seals, you’ll need high temperature silicone / cement to reapply the fibreglass.
The fire box appears to be good quality and shows minimal warping / deformation after exposure to high heat.
The total unit weight including chimney sections is on the order of 40lbs / 18kg and likely too heavy for camping without the use of a vehicle or or a sled / trailer. This is not something you carry along on you back.
In an over burn scenario the fire box approaches 600C and the chimney can reach the high 400C or low 500C range. In an optimum burn the box is anywhere from 390C to 480C.
The fire box is a single chamber, there’s no pipe damper, just two intake controls at the front.
