"If a film has a romantic theme, they often ask you for an outfit that has a romantic theme, so that the press or the public can link what they are wearing to the film that is just coming out. The thing I ask of them is that they don't ask me to be 'a tailor', if they come to me it is because they love my type of clothes and they are 'joining the cause.'"

ARMANI TAKES RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION TO ROME
The man whose name is synonymous with Italian style feted the 30th anniversary of his designs with a retrospective exhibition in Rome on Wednesday.
Giorgio Armani, designer to the stars and the man responsible for renovating fashion and the use of fabrics, told APTN that he never expected to come so far in his career, but says he still has more to do:
"Getting to this point is certainly very gratifying, but it doesn't mean that I have 'made it'. Rather, it seems that I have to earn, even more, the public's acceptance."
Armani, dressed in his signature black t-shirt and slacks, chatted with journalists, recalling the beginning of his career dressing Hollywood stars.
"The thing I ask of them is that they don't ask me to be 'a tailor', if they come to me it is because they love my type of clothes and they are 'joining the cause.'" he said.
The press conference and exhibition preview comes ahead of a star studded party in tribute to the designer later tonight. VIP's from the Italian and international fashion scene, as well as film and theatre stars from around the world will be on hand to toast the man who made the globe sit up and notice the Italian sense of style.
Armani, now 70 years old, came from a simple family in Piacenza, outside Milan. He began his career in the Italian department store La Rinascente before branching off as a freelance stylist, without any formal training.
Armani's memorable debut as a film costumer was "American Gigolo" in1980. The appearance of Richard Gere in Armani' made the designer's style familiar around the world.
Armani prefers to call himself eclectic, rather than his usual press label of 'minimalist.'
The retrospective exhibition of more than 500 outfits, curated by well-known theatre director and visual artist Robert Wilson, lends weight to the Armani version.
The exhibition, on it's fifth stop after showing in New York, Bilbao, Berlin and London, will show in Rome until August 1st before moving on to Tokyo and Los Angeles.
