Despite record-high inflation, Kartarpura food street in Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, near the capital, is packed with people. Food-lovers flock to the street for the pre-dawn meal known as Sehri or Sahoor. Others come just for the hustle and bustle. After a day of fasting, diners enjoy traditional, high-calorie items like fried bread, beef stew, curry made with goat or cow's head and hooves, and they wash it down with a variety of cold drinks.
Finding a table at the narrow, 2-kilometer-long street is not easy, as customers start arriving soon after midnight. Once the pre-dawn meal is over, food joints remain closed until it's time to break the fast at sunset. Eating in public is prohibited in Pakistan during the more than 14-hour long Ramadan fast. #ramadan #pakistan
