Depending on your needs, you may view the DJI Osmo in a very different light. Home movie shooters will likely be taken aback by its price—especially when you consider that it doesn't have a zoom lens and requires you to buy an external mic and $50 worth of accessories to mount it. Still, some well-heeled enthusiasts may be interested, especially if you already own an Inspire 1 drone and can share the camera between the devices.

Cinematographers working in day-to-day production environments will be amazed at how inexpensive the Osmo is, as will indie filmmakers and documentarians who aren't willing to go the Steadicam route. That said, the fixed field of view and the inability to focus close are limiting, as is battery drain on both the Osmo itself and the phone you'll need to use as a viewfinder. Future support for the X5 Micro Four Thirds camera and its interchangeable lenses will make the Osmo a much more versatile tool for serious filmmakers, but also a more expensive one.
