I brought my 2018 Toyota Camry SE VIN # JTNB11HK9J3020373 with 8 miles at Toyota of North Miami back in August 2017. Unfortunately on 05/23/2019 I found out that I need a new transmission for my car. Let me start by saying that I did my regular maintenance at every 5,000 mile interval RECOMMEND by Toyota's guidelines. Making sure it kept running like new by taking it to the Toyota of Hollywood FL and The vehicle has not been into any car accidents. I’m extremely strict on maintenance with my vehicle knowing that I'll have to drive constantly through harsh weather and long distances. On 05/21/2019 I was heading to Walmart, when suddenly the car suddenly started to rev on its own while the car was on (D) drive (as if the car was in neutral) I gently applied the brakes and pulled over on the side of the road, turned off the car and tried to restart it. I called Toyota of Hollywood and informed my service adviser of the issue and he suggested that I bring it to the dealership for safety.
Once I arrived there I met up with Brian Singterry, the service manager, and informed him of the issue. He took the vehicle to the technician to get it diagnosed. After 45 mins the car was ready for pick up and he informed me that they don't see any issue. I left the dealership 10 miles later the car started to act up again, but this time the warning light came on from a pre-collision system malfunction and departure malfunction etc. I went back to the dealership and showed my service manager, Brian. Brian informed me that they will investigate it first thing in the morning because it was late in the day. It took the technicians 3 days to figure out the issue and their conclusion was that it was a mechanical failure and needed a replacement. Unfortunately, the powertrain covers 3 years/ 60,000 miles and the time of the issue Occur on 05/23/2019 odometer 68,841 therefore I wasn’t covered under warranty. For a new transmission is $4,597.92 LABOR: $750.38 TAX: $376.14 and Misc.: $25.00 totaling up to $5,749.44 I contact the Toyota USA customer service number( 1-800-331-4331) and spoke with a senior advisor and informed him of my situation. After five business days, he contact me stating that he had finish his investigation unfortunately due to the car having a lot of mileage in such a short time and they are not legally obligated since the car is out of warranty however since I was loyal customer, they were able to provide help with cost of replacing the transmissions the amount of $2,500 reducing the balanced of $3,249.44. which have been paid on 06/28.2019.
Fast forward to these past 4 months my NEW transmission WHICH I REPLACED started slipping again! So I drove to Central Florida Toyota which is located at 11020 S. Orange blossom trail Orlando, Florida 32837 since a few weeks ago they serviced my vehicle by changing the oil. After I informed them that my car's transmission was slipping when I applied my feet on the gas pedal. The technician and the adviser told me that I need to replace the transmission AGAIN due to faulty Solenoid! The technician stated that he test drived it and detected slippage during 2nd gear shift. And in order to replace the transmission the estimated total came out to be $8,392.35 which I declined to pay. I contacted Toyota motor sales U.S.A, INC informing them about my situation and they said there is nothing they can do. So as of today 11/28/2022, My vehicle is sitting outside of my house unable to move because of the transmission. So, I`m just writing about my experience with my 2018 Toyota Camry SE VIN # JTNB11HK9J3020373. IF anybody is looking to buy a 2018 vehicle or newer Camry`s and face any related symptoms please make sure you either have extended warranty on your vehicle if you plan to keep your vehicle for a long time and document everything and report it to NHTSA
