Hey folks and welcome to the channel. Today we will be installing an add-a-leaf in the rear of a 2008 Nissan Xterra. Before you get started, you’ll need to round up some metric wrenches and some metric sockets. That said, that head to the shop.
First, you’re going to want to support the rear axle and start removing the shock.
Then move to the upper shock mount up on the frame.
Moving underneath, remove the four u-bolt nuts from the spring pack and remove the lower spring pad.
Remove the factory U-bolts.
Loosen the bolt securing the leaf spring to its rear shackle.
Remove the bolt from the front spring mount and allow the spring pack to swing down.
Remove the alignment pin from the spring pack as well as the lowermost leaf spring.
Insert the included alignment pin into the spring pack.
Install the add-a-leaf under the upper leaf springs.
Install the lower leaf spring under the add-a-leaf.
Install and tighten the nut onto the spring pack alignment pin.
It doesn’t shot it here but you might need to trim a little off the bottom to get it to fit.
Now you’re going to need to drill the holes in the that spring pad using a ⅝” bit. Keep that wet with some penetrating oil to help it get through.
Swing the spring pack back into place and tighten the front bolt to 84 foot pounds.
Tighten that rear spring shackle bolt to 77 foot pounds.
Install the included u-bolts over the axle and then Install the lower spring pad onto the ubolts.
If necessary, trim the excess length from the U-bolts. Torque the ubolt nuts to 53 foot pounds.
Install the shock. Tighten the lower mount to 148 foot pounds.
Tighten the upper shock mount to 33 foot pounds.
And install the wheels. Run those lug nuts down to 98 foot pounds.
So we’ve got the rear add-a-leaf installed onto the 2008 Xterra and we’re really happy how it turned out. You might notice that the front came up a couple of inches and that’s because we installed a leveling kit up there so make sure you check out that video as well.
