Plastic surgery is a divisive subject for many. If you're someone who believes that the ultimate form of beauty is to accept and embrace yourself without intervention, then the idea of plastic surgery may be hard to accept.

I think a lot of people get stuck on the idea that if beauty and self-love come from within, then plastic surgery is just a vanity band-aid, and it would be better to find a way to love yourself exactly as you are.

However, after thousands of interviews with some incredibly intelligent and successful men and women, I don’t believe these feelings have to be mutually exclusive. You can love yourself, see yourself as beautiful, and still have the desire to do a little something extra. As Cheryl mentions in her interview, aside from the invasiveness of the procedure, what is the difference between plastic surgery and dying our hair, doing our makeup, or getting our nails done?

If the opposition is that we should embrace the aging process because it’s inevitable, what about all the medical interventions we use to improve our quality of life as we age? Knee replacements, hip surgeries, facials, hormone therapy, and many more are all treatments we use to slow down or reverse the aging process, allowing us to get the most out of the time we have here.

You’ll never hear me say that plastic surgery is the right decision for everyone, nor would I say that any of my patients weren't beautiful before their procedure. We are all on our own journeys, and regardless of the path you choose your worth is never defined by how you look. It's defined by who you are and how you treat yourself and others along the way.

You deserve to feel good in your body, and whatever that looks like for you, you are worthy of love and respect.
