Museums are often associated with grand buildings, publicising the importance of their collections and attracting visitors from far and wide. However, by looking a little closer, you can sometimes find hidden museums that you have never even heard of.
One such place has been curated by microscopist, artist and table tennis fan, John Berryman, who has opened Cornwall’s first and only Microscope Museum inside his home in Penzance. But from the outside, no-one would have any idea of the many wonderous scientific treasures that are on display within.
From the very first microscope that he bought as a botany-studying teenager, to an industrial vernier measuring microscope, John Berryman’s collection includes more than 50 of the optical instruments, all in working order, as well as antique slides and beautiful photomicrographs (photographs taken through microscopes.)
