A visit to Eromanga Natural History Museum isn't as far as you think! Located a mere hour from Quilpie in South West Queensland you can access the museum on sealed roads from any direction.
As you arrive at the museum, you'll be struck by the vast and rugged landscape that surrounds it. Inside you'll be transported to a different time and place as you explore the multi-award winning, sophisticated and architecturally stunning reception building that hosts a brilliant shop and café with delicious home cooked delights and barista made coffee. The museum has a diverse collection of fossils, including some of the largest dinosaurs ever found in Australia, including Australotitan cooperensis, as well as a range of megafauna from the Pleistocene era. If you have an interest in natural history or just enjoy exploring unique and off-the-beaten-path destinations, a visit to Eromanga is a must.
One of the highlights of the museum is the chance to participate in a guided tour. Running 7 days a week, four times a day, the friendly and knowledgeable guides will take you on a journey through the museum, sharing their expertise and insights as they go. You'll get to see some of the rarest and most valuable specimens in the collection, as well as learn about the latest scientific research and discoveries.
For the future Palaeontologists the museum provides the opportunity to participate in a fossil preparation workshop. Under the guidance of museum staff, you can try your hand at cleaning and preparing real fossils, learning about the delicate and time-consuming process of uncovering these ancient treasures. It's a hands-on experience that's both fun and educational, and it gives you a real appreciation for the work that goes into uncovering and studying fossils. For those enthusiasts there are opportunities to join our field Palaeontologists on a dig.
Overall, a visit to Eromanga Natural History Museum is an unforgettable experience that will appeal to anyone with an interest in natural history, geology, or the unique culture and landscapes of the Australian outback. It's a chance to explore the wonders of the prehistoric world and to learn about the history and science that has shaped our planet.
