(22 May 2017) Iraqi forces continued fighting Islamic State (IS) group militants in western Mosul on Monday in an attempt to besiege them in the city's old town.
An Iraqi federal police commander said that his forces had to beat back an IS counterattack in the morning along their defence lines.
The eastern half of Mosul was retaken from IS at the end of January, while Iraqi forces entered the western part in February.
