Learning content is difficult enough on its own. But in many cases learners have challenges that prevent them from learning optimally. In a system that expects learners to perform at the highest level in order for them to gain entry to tertiary institutions, we need teachers who are capable of identifying the challenges that prevent learners from learning. This is easier said than done. Teachers are often not trained to identify these barriers or we simply miss these barriers because we are preoccupied with the administration side of teaching.
