In this episode I review with you my backpacking hammock setup. I have been using this gear from Warbonnet Outdoors for over a year now and I absolutely love it! The top and under quilts are rated for 20 degrees, but I have actually used them down to 15 degrees and still slept comfortably. After a year of use, every item of gear is still holding up perfectly and basically looks the same as when I took them out of the packaging.
The entire package is very lightweight for a 20 degree setup. I know some folks will hate on hammocks by saying they're heavier, more bulky, too inefficient to set up etc. I personally have not found this to be the case. My total trail weight for the entire system is 5.5 lbs which includes EVERYTHING, even the cordage, stuff sacks and pillow. During warmer weather, I'll have a lighter top quilt and no under quilt which would bring the total weight down to around 4 lbs.
As far as "packability" goes, both quilts are down and stuff down super tiny. I use a 50L pack and even in the middle of an Ohio winter, I still generally have extra space left in my pack. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing gear from Warbonnet if you're looking for quilts or to get into hammocking!
