Students have set up what they call a “Liberation Zone” at Virginia Commonwealth University as part of a pro-Palestinian demonstration, joining others on college campuses across the country protesting and demanding changes over Israel’s war effort in Gaza.
The protest started Monday morning outside the James Branch Cabell Library on VCU’s Monroe Park campus, with dozens of student protesters gathering on a grassy patch in front of the library with signs, Palestinian flags and breaking out chants of “Free Palestine.”
Tents have been put up and the protesters have formed a barrier around the zone, social media posts show.
