Rayman 2 is probably one of my favorite games ever and a lot of that has to do with the impressive artistic direction comprising pretty much all of the game's assets and mechanical design.
While some ports aren't so bad and bring their own unique iterations, improvements, and additions to the table, literally every single port of this game has technical issues (and imo sometimes take artistic liberties) that stray and detract from what was originally presented in the N64 version to varying degrees of severity, and so I wanted to present what I would consider ideal posterity footage of the original Rayman 2.
To me, this means stock N64 hardware. I decided to run the game with the 'Maximum resolution' in its options, utilizing the expansion pak, which appears to target some higher horizontal resolution, perhaps something like 512x240; while this does mean more detail, it comes at the cost of performance. I recorded with S-video out to a RetroTINK2x Mini, and ran a very mild pass of noise removal on the audio.
The RetroTINK does appear to throw a few garbage lines on some rare random frames, but it otherwise handles the signal so well that it easily gets a pass. I also had some random audio garbage noise in like 2 small spots... crooked cartridge faff?
This may not be the most fun run to watch all the way through, but I decided 100% made sense to show off nearly everything the game had to offer (except lum lore text--you can read that yourself lol). In particular I had to play "The Prison Ship" twice just to get 5 lums and I messed up and forgot 2 in "The Top of the World" which is ugh.
