According to a new report, Google is set on returning to its long-ignored laptop division. However, the so-called Pixel Laptop may run Android, not ChromeOS.
Google's Pixel smartphone series has matured in recent years to mirror that of Apple and Samsung's annual iPhone and Galaxy S releases. Conversely, Google has let its laptop division stagnate to the point of irrelevance. In face, the last Pixel laptop launched arrived the same year as the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.
However, Android Headlines now claims to have received information indicating that Google will soon be returning to the laptop market with a new product. Unfortunately, the website has not provided a timeline for the device's official introduction. Instead, it has provided a few hints about its development.
Supposedly, Google executives have approved the project, meaning that there is now a team of Googlers assigned to its ongoing development. To that end, Android Headlines asserts that a leaked internal email mentions the codename 'Snowy', which is already drawing comparisons with the Dell XPS 14 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (curr. $875 on Amazon), among other high-end compact laptops.
Seemingly, the so-called Google Pixel laptop may run Android, not ChromeOS. Please see our article on Google potentially moving to a unified Android desktop experience for more information in this regard.
