Katha a byproduct of the tree is used in Pan. It is also regarded as
astringent, cooling and digestive and used in relaxed condition in the
throat, mouth and gums and also in cough and diarrhoea.
Dark cutch - catechu is used for printing and dyeing purposes.
Branches of the tree are quite often cut for goat and cattle.

It is a deciduous, medium armed tree, grows up to 15 m tall. Leaves are small, bi-pinnate compounds and arranged oppositely, dark green, spiny; heartwood is the useful part. The flowers are pale yellow in color, small and have cylindrical spikes. The fruits are oblong pods, flattened and glabrous. The wood sap is whitish yellow in color.
