The Operating Engineers Training Institute of Manitoba offers a heavy equipment operator course which includes 80 hours of classroom learning and 160 hours of hands-on training. Students will spend the first week of training receiving all of their safety training, which includes construction safety training followed by the Heavy Equipment Operator curriculum and field training on various pieces of equipment. This course also offers state-of-the art machine simulators to supplement with real machine learning.
During the field exercises, students will be monitored on safety, attention to detail, control of the machine, accuracy, production, and work habits. The instructor will document the progress of each student continuously and offer verbal feedback regularly. All instructors have years of work and professional developmental skills to help all students become successful in the construction industry.
OETIM's status as a Heavy Equipment Training Facility will provide graduates with the qualifications required to start a construction equipment operator career. This program is classified as an entry-level course, however experienced operators complete the program to be certified and more desirable as professional equipment operators.
