Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at, and showing you how to install, these Konig XG 12 Pro Self-Tensioning Diamond Pattern Snow Tire Chains, on our 2021 Chrysler Pacifica. These are gonna be on tire size 235 65 17, as well as they're going to be on the front axle of our vehicle, as per the owner's manual. Make sure you check your manual, and also check the fit guide on etrailer.com to make sure you're getting the right chains for your tire size. If you live in an area that gets a decent amount of moderate snow and light ice pretty frequently these are gonna be some of the best chains, in my opinion, that you can buy. They are a premium option, bursting with features that we'll get into in just a second.
Mostly including the self tensioning, that allows the chains to stay secure while you're driving. But overall, the chains do have a diamond pattern style shape, to get you more coverage on the tires. It's easier when you're turning. Not as effective when starting and stopping. But you're gonna feel these a lot less than your ladder pattern style chains would.
Also, the links themselves are square. But they're still low profile enough to meet Class S compatibility standards. We do have some limited wheel well clearance here on the Pacifica, and the fact that they do meet that low profile standard makes them really easy to work with. And they're not gonna damage anything inside your wheel well here. And the square links are going to help you bite into some of that ice and snow that I mentioned.
As well as, you can see up here towards the top, where the links connect, there are these traction plates that are also going to help bite into that ice. Another thing that makes these chains such a premium option is the fact that they do have a manganese alloy construction. So they're gonna be durable. And they're gonna hold up better to rust, corrosion, and weather than a low carbon steel chain would. On the inside, you can see that these chains are a different color.
And that's because they're powder coated, not only to protect your rims of your tire, but also your hands. They won't freeze to them, if you're trying to get the chains installed and it's really cold out, like just bare metal would. Here you can take a closer look at the self tensioning mechanism. It's going to keep constantly applying tension to your chains. Normally we would maybe recommend picking up a rubber tensioner to keep your chains in place, but this does it for you. And it's all included, so you don't have to pick it up. If you want something similar, and you don't wanna deal with the self tensioning, Konig also has assisted tensioning, which is going to help get tension into your tires. But it's not going to constantly pull on it, like the self tensioning would. So these are gonna be a little bit more secure. The chains do come two to a set, in this hard, protective outer shell. Which does a really good job of keeping the chains nice and compact. You can see that there are two sets that come with the set, two chains that come with the set rather. And in this bag, there are some plastic protective pieces. So if you do make contact with some areas on your tires, especially with these connections, and you want a little bit more protection, you can put those on. But the case itself, again, is going to protect your chains not only from damage but also weather. As we set them out, there is also a hook and loop patch on the back. So if you have fabric interior on your car, it'll stick to that and it'll prevent it from sliding around too much while you're driving. One of my favorite things about these chains overall though is the ease of install. We have limited clearance here on the bottom. So, it's really a pain to get down and around and make these connections. Luckily, with these chains you don't have to. So you can check out how we did it right now. The first thing we'd like to do is to lay the chains out flat. We just wanna make sure that nothing is caught up or twisted. This self-tensioning cable and the hook can definitely get caught up in things, so just make sure that those aren't. There's also this gap in the middle. That's where the tire's gonna go. We wanna make sure that the chains are facing the right way. We just use these hoops at the end of each set of links. You'll note that the flat side is facing up ri
