In this video we unload another glaze kiln containing pieces made by my extremely talented students and one of my pieces – my work always takes a back seat! I’ve tested a new mix of Amaco glazes and also added Mayco glazes to one of my pieces for a change – a mug using Aurora Green and Winter Wood.
In this load we have a lovely Wonky Pot made by Jane and glazed in Amaco Sky and Emerald Falls. The Wonky Pot template continues to sell well in my Etsy shop so you could make your own version of this cheeky little pot. Another of Sara’s Tibetan Prayer Wheels is unloaded – this time decorated by her son, Magnus, with a weather theme. Sara is going to stack these into a totem and each of her three children has made their own version – what a lovely memento to keep forever. The most recent course of Bryony, Jacqui and Lara saw them making the beautiful and delicate porcelain hydrangea and allium heads which are decorated using Bullseye Glass Frit instead of glaze colours. These are designed to be put onto metal rods in a pot in the garden and they will look lovely waving in the breeze in the summer months on any patio or deck. Great project and a great course.
Carolyn wins Student of the Week this week for her slab built tapered vase. This is the second of these Carolyn has made with the “Darlek bobble” feature. Lovely interesting form with interesting glaze combinations too – well done Carolyn for thinking outside the box on her design. Works really well. All my students have said how much they enjoy their sessions here at The Pottery Corner and that it is true clay therapy – which is a great compliment. Great atmosphere for creating and relaxing with clay – just what I’d hope to achieve.
The Amaco Potter’s Choice and Celadon glazes shown in this video are: Blue Rutile, Textured Turquoise, Blue Sapphire, Ice, Deep Firebrick, Chun Plum, Indigo Float, Rainforest, Mulberry, Smoke, Pear and Snow.
My work is available to purchase via my Etsy shop (link below) if you’d be kind enough to take a look.
Hi I’m Sarah Amos. I gave up my day job and am now living the dream as a full-time potter and teacher, running courses from my studio, The Pottery Corner, in a little village just outside Chichester on the South Coast of England. With Cissy and Charlie, my studio companions, we welcome students of all abilities from complete beginners to the more experienced, teaching throwing on the potters wheel as well as handbuilding techniques.
I love to share my clay experience and knowledge by passing on pottery techniques in my Pottery Top Tip videos; which include full tutorials on items to try out yourselves. I also sell my work via my Website and Etsy Shop. So grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and let’s dive into what’s going on in The Pottery Corner today.
