A great sounding cylinder music box made by George Bendon of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1880.
The musical movement features nine engraved bells struck by 5 birds and 4 hammers, all of which can be engaged or disengaged at will. They lend the music box a wonderful sense of theatre when it the music is playing.
It plays a selection of eight operatic and popular tunes of the day as listed on the original tunesheet. The sound is bright and lively with some very nice arrangements to the tunes.
The case is veneered with rosewood to the lid, front and sides with tulipwood and boxwood stringing. It is all original and in great condition.
