The reality of street fights is that they are never fair. In street fighting, you don't know when or if your attacker might hit you. It's an element of surprise. If someone approaches you, keep your distance.
You never know the other person's intentions! Even if they might seem weak to you, you should never underestimate anyone, because they can surprise you.
If you are facing a potential attacker who is much larger than you, taking the chance against someone so big is foolish. Self defense isn't about picking fights to help sooth your ego: it's about getting out alive.
Street fights are not fair since anything is possible and you aren't against just one attacker. Rather, you're against an attacker, his buddies, his weapons, etc.
If you have the chance not to fight, take it. Your ego is not worth your life. Keep your ego in check in a street fight, verbally diffuse if you can. This will determine whether you go home or are carried there within an ambulance.
