Finding and raising an orphaned mouse. We found 2 mice around a week old on our sidewalk and knew that they wouldn't survive unless I helped them. I learned a lot via YouTube videos as well as online websites. Mice are very difficult to raise from such a young age due to many factors. They are very small for one. They must be fed every 2 hours around the clock for the first couple of weeks. You will also have to help them potty since they can't go on their own at this age. Keeping them warm as well as the correct mixture of formula is essential; they won't eat or digest food if it's cold. Baby mice have no fat stores to help with this.
Once their eyes begin to open during the 3rd week they should be able to go potty on their own and the feedings change. Weening can soon begin as well. If they have made it to this stage things will become much easier and you can finally sleep.
When I first decided to try to save them I planned on releasing them back into the wild but after only 2 days I was so attached and emotionally invested I knew I wouldn't be able to. Both mice survived for a week and then suddenly one died. The lone survivor Fiesty has become domesticated as well and the thought of her getting snatched by an owl the first night out just kills me. I don't know if mice would feel abandoned like other animals suddenly dumped off but I couldn't take that chance.
This video is more of a compilation of videos from when she was found up until she was about 6 weeks old. She is so friendly and has become my little friend. Mice are very social so I will have to buy her a companion as it wouldn't be right for her to spend her life by herself.
If you have any questions I'd be happy to try to help.
