For renowned landscape architect Jerry van Eyck, there's no "one size fits all" mentality. To him a new commission in an exotic place calls for creating a design identity from scratch, masterfully blending the macro- and micro- components to create a unique, revitalized signature for the city.

This transcendent mindset transplanted him from the Netherlands to New York, where, in 2010, he established a landscape architecture and urban design firm, !melk. With the expansion of Brown University into the Jewelry District of Providence, Road Island, the firm gained worldwide prestige. In a portfolio consisting of internationally acclaimed projects, its current commission will create a public space network and the first park on the Las Vegas Strip.

Jerry's sharp eye for design and extensive experience makes him an excellent visiting critic at design institutions globally. He's an adjunct professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the Board of Governors of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
