If astronauts make even a small mistake while defecating in space, their urine and feces can start floating around. To prevent this, NASA uses $10 million titanium toilets. But how do astronauts use these toilets? Let's find out. For urination, there is a suction pipe with a hole, which is different for males and females. To use it, the astronaut turns on a button on the side and urinates into the pipe. The suction pipe works like a vacuum cleaner, pulling the urine inside and collecting it in a filtration bag. Since very little water can be brought into space for drinking, the pipe filters the urine and converts it into drinkable water. For defecation, there is a special toilet pipe that is five inches wide. The astronaut places this pipe against their body, and the vacuum pulls the waste down into a waste container. Once the container is full, it is ejected from the space station.
